What does God have to say about your struggles today? In fact, the Bible speaks to everything from recurring sins and addictions, blind spots, the need for wisdom, conflict resolution, marriage issues, raising children, lack of hope, guilty conscience, anxiety, and much more!
Are you currently deprived of hope? Are you trapped in sin and/or its effects? The person of Jesus Christ offers relief. “Come to Me, all who are weary and heavy-laden, and I will give you rest” (Matthew 11:28, NASB1995). We find this rest in Christ through the truth of His Holy Word. The Bible guides the Christian’s response to difficult life issues, leading him into the way of righteousness. It is the Word of God which drives the counseling of Berean Community Church.
Who We Are & What We Do
We are a group of trained biblical counselors, providing free, short-term counseling to struggling individuals and couples. We are not certified by the State of Delaware, but trained/certified by the Association of Certified Biblical Counselors (ACBC). The counseling is conducted by either one of our pastors or church members in accordance with their understanding of the Scriptures.
Our counselors are not infallible, nor do they pretend to know all there is to know about Biblical teaching and its applications to life, but they are well-equipped and competent to help people change. They will clearly separate God's commands from their suggestions. Our counselors do not give medical or legal advice. As with all of life, medical and legal matters require a proper, God-honoring perspective. We are glad to teach Biblical principles so that you can make the best use of other legal or medical advice. However, our counselors will make clear distinctions between spiritual care and the medical and legal fields.
If a conflict should arise between the counselee and the counselor, both parties must agree to resolve the dispute under submission to and direction of the Board of Elders at Berean Community Church.
What You Can Expect
Since Berean Community Church offers this service for free, Berean’s members take precedence over outside counseling. While the service is free, weekly homework requirements may require the counselee to purchase materials. The counselee is held fully responsible for how he/she implements and applies the Scriptural advice. At any time during counseling, for reasons sufficient to himself/herself, the counselor or counselee shall individually have the option of terminating counseling.
Information disclosed in counseling sessions will be held confidential only as the counselor believes the Bible or the State requires. Often, dealing with life’s problems involves hearing embarrassing and difficult information. We work hard to fulfill your trust by keeping this information private. Scripture tells us that, under certain circumstances, information shared in confidence may need to be discussed with other parties, such as church leadership and civil authorities (e.g. Matt. 18:15ff). If your current church leadership should inquire about your counseling, we will disclose to them only that information which we believe is necessary for them to effectively and Biblically fulfill their responsibility to shepherd you.
Finally, the Bible is clear that the best spiritual help you can get is help from a local church. If you are not committed to a Bible-focused church that will care for your soul, plan on attending Sunday worship services at Berean Community Church each week while you are in counseling. The teaching and fellowship that you receive will reinforce what is discussed in the counseling sessions.
